HAIR: Silvery white, shoulder-length

BACKGROUND: Tal'frynn is something as exeedingly extrodinary as a dark elf travelling the roads of the surface world. After having left the Underdark a handfull of years ago, Tal'frynn has been making a living by procuring precious items and selling them off in the nearest city to earn some coin. One might encounter him during one of these trips where he, glamorously, delves into crypts and, respectfully, removes the burial offerings from ancient gravesites in order to make a living. Exactly why he left the Underdark in the first place is somewhat unclear, as he tends to dodge questions as to his motivations or sidestept it entirely if possible. If pressed for an answer he might reveal that he grew up in the city of T'lindhet and simply left to seek his fortune in a society that wouldn't be so hellbent on holding him down. Since he grew up in a remarkably different society, Tal'frynn doesn't seem entirely at ease amongst the surface people. His appearance alone is enough to set him apart and it does make him stick out like a sore thumb in certain places, whilst he gets a free pass in other spaces due to general ignorance of his kind's way of life. Tal'frynn speaks Common almost fluently, but does have a slightly lilting accent that makes it clear he's not a native speaker. |
PERSONALITY: Having been raised in a society with remarkably different ideals than the surface world, Tal'frynn might not always be considered what one might call a nice person. He was taught that drows are far surperior to any other race and that he should always strive to be better than anyone else; faster, stronger, smarter - even his own kind. He is unused to things such as genuine kindness, proper friendship and charity, let alone trust. He might come off as cold, disinterested and selfish, always holding his own interests above those of others. Mostly he seems to barely have any emotions at all or just be very good at controlling them. Perhaps one might even perceive him as a bit paranoid, as he tends to believe there is always some hidden intent to people's actions and words. Tal'frynn has an especially deep lack of trust in magic and those that practise it. Tal'frynn is a stranger in a strange place and he's often baffled by the surface world and its customs. Sometimes he will be comically awkard, especially if presented with a situation that is completely foreign to him - which happens more often than he likes to admit. Sometimes it's perceived as a lack of intelligence or straight up rudeness, but he does have an interest in understanding the world and generally does his best to adapt. While a lot can be said about his bad sides, he is definitely working hard at becoming a slightly less shitty person. |
APPEARANCE: Tal'frynn is quite tall for a drow, standing at a height of rougly 180 centimeters, give or take. He does have their signature build, however, having a lighter frame than other humanoid races. He is mostly solid muscle, trained for speed and agility, and takes a certain amount of pride in keeping his body in peak condition. His skin is dark grey, which is fairly light for his kind, but enough to easily reveal his heritage. There are surprisingly few scars or scabs to be found on him, and the ones he does have all seem quite new or to stem from injuries received within the last handful of years. None of them are very prominent or found in very obvious places. There are no signs of tattoos or any other markings or decorations on his skin. Tal'frynn has high and prominent cheekbones, accentuating his generally rather sharp facial features. What seems to be the most remarkable out of these features, perhaps apart from his skintone, are his eyes. They have a deep red colour that seems to fill up the entirety of his eye, from sclera to iris. There seems to be a faint hint of a pupil, but his eye colour is so dark it's fairly hard to tell. They tend to strike people as unnerving and quite a number of people Tal'frynn has encountered have avoided looking him in the eyes even during conversation. He has gotten into the habit of simply avoiding eye-contact out of what he perceives as courtesey. As any other type of elf he has long ears that point backwards at a slight upward angle. His hair is long enough that he can pull it into a sad excuse of a ponytail, although some strands tend to escape and hang loose in front of his ears. There is a lot of evidence to his latest haircut being done by someone with limited experience, namely himself. It has a silvery white colour, as a stark contrast to his dark skin. Tal'frynn seems physically incapable of growing facial hair. |
APPAREL: It has been several years since Tal'frynn left the Underdark, but the whole situation with bright sunlit days still doesn't agree with his eyes or his skin very much, and as such he tends to be covered in clothes and armor from head to toe - even on warm, sunny days. His standart outfit consists of an armor-like jerkin, made out of a black material that looks and feels very similar to leather, but as it is very obviously drowcraft it might be something else entirely. There seems to be some sort of symbols or ornamentation carved into it, but it's hard to tell because the material is so dark and it's well-worn by now. Part of his torso is also covered by a belt, containing a small assortment of vials and a small throwing-dagger or two, as well as a woollen cloak. The hood is usually pulled up to shield his eyes and face if he ventures outside during the day. His pants are unremarkable, but well-fitted. His gloves and boots are made of a similar black, leathery material to the armor pieces he wears. The boots go all the way of to his mid-thigh, giving him some form of protection where proper armor might hinder his movement. On either side of his hip is a sheathed blade, easily accessible if the need should arise. Slightly too long and curved to be regular shortswords and made of dark, almost black, steel, they're also quite obviously drowcraft. It's quite obvious that most of the things he carries with him, even the pack containing his belongings and the two swords, were fitted or crafted specifically for him back in the day. By now it has a bit of wear and tear, although everything seems to be very well kept and probably regularly maintained. Tal'frynn wears little to nothing in the way of jewellery, adorments or knick-knacks, apart from a single pendant, usually hidden beneath layers of clothes. |
COMBAT TRAINING / WEAPON'S PROFICIENCY: Tal'frynn has, at some point, been trained in the art of swordsmanship. He's ambidextrous and wields two swords, using them both for attacks and blocking. His style of combat relies heavily on stealth, speed and agility. Generally he seems suspiciously deadly for a simple grave-robber. DARKVISION: Having adjusted to the sparse light of the Underdark, Tal'frynn is able to discern shapes in complete darkness as easily as most people would in daylight, albeit in shades of grey. His vision hasn't quite adjusted to bright daylight yet. ENHANCED SENSES: Apart from his ability to see in the dark, Tal'frynn has an excellent sense of hearing and touch. Using other senses than mere eyesight was fairly useful in the Underdark, after all. LANGUAGE PROFECIENCY: As a citizen of the Underdark, Tal'frynn speaks and writes Drowic and Undercommon. Apart from this he has learned Common, which he speaks almost fluently, albeit with an accent. He seems to be able to understand and speak some dialects of Elvish, since it's closely related to Drowic. |
MAGIC RESISTANCE: Tal'frynn has inherited a high resistance of magic, especially the kind that migh seek to tamper with or entirely control the mind. NAVIGATION / TRACKING: Years of training and experience has made Tal'frynn able to navigate with little to no help apart from simple observation. He has a keen eyesight and is able to track and discern between several types of creatures in varying terrain. The terrain he is most used to is the Underdark, without a doubt. POISON RESISTANCE: Having been exposed to a variety of toxins during his training, Tal'frynn has a high tolerance of different sorts of poisons, as well as most types of drugs and alchohol. Always the life of the party. |
